Some people think that Cinque Terre wines are too expensive, and For sure I can confirm that the prices aren’t cheap at all …but is this right?/do you know why ?
Well,before answering let me introduce you the work that is needed to produce every single bottle …
The Vineyards The mountains of Cinque Terre have very steep slopes with a lot of vineyards created thanks to a system of dry stone . This is a building method by which structures are constructed from stones without any mortar to bind them together that needs to be maintained and improved in a constant way. The plants of grapes that grow are not very tall and the terraces are very tight,So even keep in order the vineyards is very hard…
Surface The total surface of National Park of Cinque Terre is 3860 km². This is very limited, as also the quantity of wine that can be produced . Grape harvest Trust me, before you’ve tried the grape harvest you can’t see how hard it is! I did it by myself and I realised that is really HEROIC work: All grapes are picked up manually: No tractors, no machines that will do it for humans. The First, to picked up are the most beautiful ones used for Sciacchetrà and after the others for red or white wine As I’ve mentioned before, the grape plants are short, so when you pick up the grapes you are usually bent. After it is necessary to bring together all the cases(weight about 20 kg each ) climbing the steep slopes!
Then, when all grapes are brought in the cellar, they have to be throw manually to special containers to end the production…
So what about the Price? One bottle starts from 20€ In my opinion, considering the hard work behind the production it’s an honest price …and above all, have you ever tasted it ?
