Cinque Terre Card 2026: What It Includes and When It Is Worth It

The short answer

In 2026 the Cinque Terre National Park returned to two main Card families: Trekking and Treno. Both now include access to the Via dell’Amore, but a reservation is still required and places are limited. The right Card is not automatically the most expensive one. It is the one that matches the journeys and walks you will actually make.

Trekking Card or Treno Card?

The Trekking Card is designed around Park services and access to the paid sections of the trail network. The Treno Card combines those services with eligible regional train travel between Levanto and La Spezia. Prices vary by age, duration and the green, yellow or red demand calendar.

Before buying, write down your real day: where you sleep, how many train rides you expect, and whether you plan to enter a paid trail. Compare that with individual tickets. A traveller who takes one direct train and spends the rest of the day in one village may not need the same product as someone making four rail journeys and hiking between villages.

Via dell’Amore in 2026

For ordinary visitors the route is regulated. Entry is from Riomaggiore, the walk proceeds one way to Manarola, and booking a time slot is compulsory. The Park estimates roughly 30 minutes for the route. Having a valid Card does not remove the need to reserve.

This detail matters: do not build a tight itinerary around the Via dell’Amore before confirming a slot. Book first, then arrange the rest of the day around it.

What changed on the railway

Trenitalia’s 5 Terre Express runs from 14 March to 1 November 2026. Trenitalia announced 46 additional daily services between Levanto and La Spezia, with an approximate half-hour frequency. That does not mean every train will be quiet or perfectly spaced. Platforms can still become crowded in the middle of the day, and engineering work or disruption can alter the timetable.

Check the Trenitalia app or website on the day of travel. If you buy a ticket that requires validation, validate it before boarding.

A better way to use the Card

Use the Card to reduce friction, not to create a race. Two villages experienced properly are more rewarding than five rushed station stops. Start early, leave a margin around reservations, and keep one part of the day flexible for weather or crowds.
