Monterosso is the clearest beach choice
For a conventional beach day, Monterosso offers the longest and most practical shoreline in the five villages, with both managed and free sections depending on the season. Arrive early in summer and never leave valuables unattended while swimming.
Rock access is different
Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore offer water access around harbours or rocks rather than broad sandy beaches. Surfaces can be slippery, entries can be deep and boat movement matters. Do not jump where depth and underwater hazards are unknown.
Read the sea
Small waves from above can produce strong surge against rock. Follow local signs, lifeguard instructions and harbour restrictions. If boats are being pulled ashore or access points are closed, choose another activity.
Wear water shoes where appropriate, supervise children continuously and protect yourself from the sun. Corniglia has no harbour at village level; reaching coastal swimming points involves additional walking and should be planned with the return climb in mind.
