The address is not the whole journey
A property can be close to a station on a map and still require steep stairs, a tunnel, a climb through narrow lanes or a walk over uneven stone. Before booking, ask for the exact route from the platform, the number of steps and whether check-in involves a second building.
Pack for carrying, not rolling
A smaller case or backpack is easier than a large rigid suitcase. Keep both hands available on stairs, avoid dragging luggage through crowded lanes and never leave bags where they narrow station exits. If you need assistance, arrange it with your accommodation in advance rather than expecting a taxi at every village station.
Match the village to your mobility
Monterosso generally offers the flattest arrival and the broadest selection of conventional hotels. Riomaggiore and Manarola rise quickly from the water. Vernazza’s central lane is straightforward but side streets can climb sharply. Corniglia is high above its station and requires a bus or a long stairway.
Travel in daylight when possible. Arriving before the evening rush gives you time to find the property, solve access problems and avoid carrying luggage through dinner crowds.
