Expect a living place, not a summer set
Winter reveals resident life and the structure of the villages, but some restaurants, accommodation and boat services close or reduce hours. Confirm essentials directly and avoid building the trip around a single seasonal business.
Use daylight carefully
Short days reduce the margin for hiking. Check the live trail map, weather and sunset time, then choose a route well within your ability. Wet stone and wind can make familiar paths more demanding. Carry layers and never enter a trail because an old blog says it is usually open.
Keep transport options
Regional trains remain the main connection, but timetables and engineering works can vary. Check official journey information close to travel. Boats are not a dependable winter plan.
Build the trip around long meals, village walks, photography and nearby La Spezia or Levanto. Winter succeeds when quiet is the attraction rather than a promise that every summer experience will be available.
