The Roman villa of Varignano preserves the remains of a coastal estate built beside a sheltered inlet at Le Grazie. Its residential and agricultural structures show how the Gulf of La Spezia was organised and exploited long before the medieval villages. The archaeological remains are most useful when read together: living quarters, production areas and the protected harbour setting form one landscape. Check current access before travelling specifically for the site, as visiting arrangements can vary.
