Built in 1318, this church is unique because its foundations rest directly on the cliffs of the harbor. In Genoese Romanesque style, it is easily recognized by its 40-meter octagonal bell tower overlooking the square. Inside, the atmosphere is dark and mystical, with black stone columns and narrow windows that let in the shimmering light from the waves.
The Legend: It is said that a chest containing the Saint's relics ended up on the beach. Locals tried to move them to a higher location, but a storm magically returned them to the shore. They realized the Saint wanted her church built right there next to the water. Having survived centuries of storms and the 2011 flood, it remains the ultimate symbol of Vernazza’s resilience.
